Erja Lyytinen Embarks on British Tour
Finland's most popular blues lady Erja Lyytinen does a British tour in
November. The tour includes ten dates around the country. Gigs will take
place e.g. in London, Wolverhampton, and the capital of Wales, Cardiff.
Guitarist Davide Floreno, bassist Matti Vallius and drummer Rami Eskelinen
make up Erja's tour band.
Ms Lyytinen and her band act as special guests for Southside Johnny & The
Asbury Jukes on two dates. Southside Johnny (John Lyon) is a singer-songwriter
with a long career; he has mostly followed the musical footsteps of Bruce
Springsteen. He knows his roots, too, and is a regular attraction at B.B. King's
club in New York.
"The first records I remember buying were over at CJ's Record Store in Asbury
Park, they would have cutouts for 99 cents. I bought a John Lee Hooker album,
a Jimmy Reed album and, I think, a Lightnin' Hopkins album", Johnny reminisced
in Elmore Magazine a couple of years back.
On November 20, Southside Johnny and Erja Lyytinen appear at London's
legendary Shepherds Bush Empire. The 2,000-seater houses several top rock
and roots acts on a regular basis.
Ms Lyytinen takes her band to Britain directly from Sweden -- they tour Finland's
western neighbor in late October and early November.
Ruf Records has released two international solo albums by Erja Lyytinen.
"Dreamland Blues" (2006) and "Grip of the Blues" (2008) are getting a successor
next year. "The new album will be out next spring, in April or May", Lyytinen's
publicist Kimmo Talikainen says. "The release will be celebrated with about
twenty live dates, covering some of the most important concert halls in Finland."
In addition to her solo career, Erja Lyytinen has twice starred on the
international Blues Caravan tour: in 2006 with Ian Parker and Aynsley Lister,
and again this year with Oli Brown and Joanne Shaw Taylor.
