2 November 2009 Georg Schroeter and Marc Breitfelder German, Latvian, Swedish Contestants Proceed to International Blues Challenge Representatives for the Baltic Sea region at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis come from Germany, Latvia and Sweden.
The Baltic Blues Challenge and German Blues Challenge contests were held last weekend in Eutin, Germany.
Latvian Blues Band celebrates victory in the band category. The group, formed in 1997, released its first studio album earlier this year. Through the years, they have performed e.g. at the Chicago Blues Festival and at major clubs in the Windy City. The Latvian Blues Band features Janis Bukovskis (guitar and vocals), Reinis Ozolins (bass), Rolands Saulietis (drums), Artis Locmelis (sax, keys) and Nauris Strezs (trombone).
Georg Schroeter and Marc Breitfelder were victorious both in the Baltic and German Blues Challenges, winning the solo/duo category. Schroeter is a pianist/vocalist; Breitfelder is a harpist, who also has a victory from the European Harmonica Festival (1996) under his belt.
The winners of the German Blues Challenge earn a direct place in the IBC. As Schroeter and Breitfelder won the solo/duo category, Baltic Challenge runners-up Steve Grahn & Mattias Malm - from Sweden - get to travel to Memphis as well. Number one German band, Hootin' The Blues, qualified for Memphis, too.
Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland and Latvia had sent artists to the Baltic Blues Challenge.
The International Blues Challenge, arranged by the Blues Foundation, will take place in Memphis over 20 - 23 January, 2010. .
