1 February 2010 Ramblin' Jack Elliott Elliott, Trucks Get Blues Grammies The most-coveted prizes in music business, the Grammies, were handed out on Sunday in Los Angeles. The gala was organized for the 52nd time.
The winners of the Grammies are determined by the Recording Academy. The Academy assures the decisions are based on artistic achievement, commercial success notwithstanding.
In the traditional blues category the winner was Ramblin' Jack Elliott with his album "A Stranger Here". The man was present in LA, and gradually made his way up to the stage. "I broke my back this morning, pickin' up my grandchild", he explained.
Elliot gave his thanks to his loved ones as well as to his label, Anti.
Derek Trucks Band's "Already Free" was the strongest in the contemporary blues category. Derek was not there to receive the prize, so it was down to drummer Yonrico Scott to pick up the Grammy.
"I would like to thank all the members of the band, and of course Derek himself. This is our first self-produced album – we are very honored", said Scott.
The legendary Honeyboy Edwards, 94, was honored with a Special Merit Award.
In addition, a Grammy was awarded to Beyonce for her rendition of Etta James's hit "At Last" – the song played an important part in the motion picture "Cadillac Records".
