ZZ Top to Headline Lakeside Blues Festival
ZZ Top will be the headliners at the Lakeside Blues Festival in Jarvenpaa,
Southern Finland, on 3 July. The festival, known in Finland as the Puistoblues,
confirmed the Texans' appearance today. The Lakeside Blues Festival is
arguably the largest blues festival in Europe.

ZZ Top may be known to mainstream public as a rock band, but their roots are
deeply in the blues; this is perhaps best manifested in their album title from 1994
– "One Foot in the Blues". The band's earlier material includes such blues-based
gems as "Tush" and "Jesus Just Left Chicago".

On the other hand, it was down to a number of more commercial songs like
"Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Sharp Dressed Man", "Legs" and "Sleeping Bag" that
gave them their supergroup status everywhere in the world of rock in the 80's.

The group still play in the original lineup:
Billy Gibbons (guitar, vocals), Dusty Hill
(bass, vocals) and
Frank Beard (drums).

"Blues is such a great artform", said Gibbons in an interview on Music Radar. "It is
more than just three chords -- you find it out only after diggin' into it. Recordings
Jimmy Reed and Bo Diddley have taught ZZ Top a lot about playing as a trio,

Lakeside festival director
Jouni Hyytiainen is thrilled by the acquisition. "All top
blues rock bands have been influenced by the early ZZ Top albums. They have a
distinguishable sound of their own. Mainstream public will be interested, too, so a
great atmosphere and a big crowd can be expected at our festival. Last year we
had the honor of bringing
Gov't Mule here, and now we get to host the number
one Texans", says Hyytiainen.

In addition to the main concert – the other performers of which will be announced
during the spring – the five-day Lakeside Blues Festival includes club concerts,
street stages, and a special program for the kids. The Festival has been arranged
annually since 1978.

Lakeside was voted the
Best Blues Festival in Finland in 2008.
